There were many different wounds in the Civil War. Many were caused by the "mini balls" that were bullets used in the Civil War. A lot of wounds were just the bullet wounds and the "Grapeshot" wound. The grapeshot was maybe the worst wound to get. Amputations of the arms and legs were very common.
There were many deaths from the Union Army and the Confederate Army. In just one battle, the Union Army brought 75,000 soldiers to fight, 21,000 died and 10,300 were wounded. For the Confederate Army , they brought 52,000 soldiers to fight, 2,770 died and 11,000 were wounded. During the whole war, for every Union death there were three Confederate deaths. A lot of the deaths were caused by diseases that the doctors gave to the soldiers for not washing their hands or just from things in the war. The main diseases from the war were dysentery, typhoid fever, yellow fever, malaria, measles, mumps, pneumonia, syphilis, tuberculosis, and scurvy. About two thirds of the fatalities were causes by disease/illness.
